3 Mistakes I’ll Never Make at Hollywood Studios — From a Former Disney Cast Member
Hollywood Studios is one of the most exciting parks at Walt Disney World—home to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, and some of the best entertainment offerings in the parks. But after working behind the scenes as a Disney cast member, I’ve learned the ins and outs of what makes (or breaks) your day at this park.
So today, I’m sharing three mistakes I’ll never make when I visit Hollywood Studios, and what I do instead to make sure every trip is unforgettable.
1. I’ll Never Skip Dining Reservations
Here’s something you learn quickly as a cast member: Hollywood Studios has some of the best themed dining experiences in all of Walt Disney World—and they book up fast.
From the retro vibes at 50’s Prime Time Café, to cocktails at Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge, to the glitz and glam of Hollywood Brown Derby, these aren’t just meals—they’re experiences. And if you wait too long, they’ll be gone.
I always make my dining reservations as soon as my booking window opens (60 days out) so I can enjoy the immersive storytelling Disney is famous for, without scrambling for last-minute options.
2. I’ll Never Set My Ride Expectations Too High
Hollywood Studios has some of the best rides at Disney World. But here’s the catch—many of them have high demand and are prone to downtime.
Attractions like Rise of the Resistance, Slinky Dog Dash, and Tower of Terror are amazing—but technical issues and long wait times are common. Instead of letting that derail my day, I go in with flexible expectations.
If I miss a ride? No big deal. I make a plan to park hop later in the week and enjoy the shows, characters, and themed areas in the meantime. A relaxed mindset makes all the difference in enjoying your Disney day.
3. I’ll Never Go to the First Fantasmic Show
During busy seasons, Fantasmic often runs two performances per night—and most guests pack into the first one, creating long lines and tight seating.
I always skip the first showing and head to the second one. Why?
Lower crowds
Better seat selection
A more peaceful end to the night
This strategy lets me enjoy more rides or dinner during the first show, then wrap up my day with one of Disney’s most stunning nighttime spectaculars—without the stress.
Final Thoughts
Hollywood Studios is thrilling, immersive, and packed with top-tier experiences—but only if you know how to navigate it. By booking your dining early, managing expectations for the big rides, and catching that second Fantasmic show, you can unlock the best this park has to offer.
Hollywood Studios is more than just thrill rides—it’s cinematic storytelling brought to life. Plan smart and enjoy the show.
